1. What this policy covers
This Cookie Policy explains how TrendGap uses cookies and similar storage in your browser (local storage and session storage) on trendgap.io and in the TrendGap app. It covers the items we set ourselves and the few set by Cloudflare, our hosting and security provider.
Your choice is saved in the browser you are using, so it applies to that browser on that device. On another device or browser, you choose again.
This policy adds detail to the Cookies section of our Privacy Policy.
2. Your choices
We sort everything we store in your browser into three categories:
- Necessary. Always on. They keep you signed in, protect sign-in and our forms from abuse, make the features you use work (for example, carrying what you typed to the page you asked for), and remember your cookie choice. TrendGap cannot work without them, so they do not need your consent.
- Preferences. Optional. They remember small choices, such as a notice you closed or your fit quiz answers.
- Analytics and attribution. Optional. They remember how you first found TrendGap and let our analytics (PostHog and Google Analytics) recognise this browser on later visits. Google Analytics is loaded only after you turn this category on. If you subscribe, how you found us is saved with your subscription.
The optional categories are off until you turn them on. Until you choose, we neither read nor write anything in them.
You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page of our website, in Settings in the app, or with the button below. When you turn a category off, we delete what it stored in this browser. Turning Analytics and attribution off does not remove what was already saved with a subscription; email privacy at trendgap.io and we will delete it.
We remember your choice for 180 days and then ask again. We also ask again when we change this policy in a way that affects your choice. Clearing your browser's cookies clears your choice too.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block the sign-in cookie, you cannot sign in.
We honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do Not Track. If your browser sends either signal, Google Analytics is not loaded, and PostHog stores nothing in this browser and does not link your visits to your account, even if you turned on Analytics and attribution.
3. Necessary
These are always on. They provide the service you asked for, keep it secure, or remember your cookie choice.
| Name | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
__Secure-Cookie, set by TrendGap (first party) | Keeps you signed in. Scripts on the page cannot read it. | 7 days, renewed while you use TrendGap; deleted when you sign out |
__Secure-Cookie, set by TrendGap (first party) | Protects “Continue with Google” from forgery. Set only when you start a Google sign-in. | 5 minutes |
better-Local storage, set by TrendGap (first party) | Tells your other open TrendGap tabs that you signed in or out, so they update. | Until you clear your browser storage; replaced at each sign-in or sign-out |
tg_Cookie, set by TrendGap (first party) | Remembers your cookie choice, with the policy version and the date you chose. | 180 days, then we ask again |
tg_Cookie, set by TrendGap (first party) | Lets the TrendGap team use the site during maintenance. Never set for visitors. | 8 hours |
trendgap.Session storage, set by TrendGap (first party) | Carries the idea you typed in a tool to the idea evaluator page you open next. Deleted as soon as that page reads it. | Until the next page reads it, at most until you close the tab |
tsr-Session storage, set by TrendGap (first party) | Remembers where you were on a page, so going back returns you there. It never leaves your browser. | Until you close the tab |
tanstack_Session storage, set by TrendGap (first party) | After we release a new version, reloads a page once if part of it failed to load, and stops a reload loop. | Until you close the tab |
| Cloudflare TurnstileFrame storage, set by Cloudflare in its own frame (third party) | Checks that you are a person on our sign-in, sign-up, password, contact and claim forms and on the free tools that run without an account. Cloudflare says it uses this information only to tell people from bots. | Decided by Cloudflare |
__cf_Cookie, set by Cloudflare on our domain (first party) | Bot protection by Cloudflare. Set only if Cloudflare's bot protection for our site uses it. | 30 minutes after your last request |
cf_Cookie, set by Cloudflare on our domain (first party) | Shows that you already passed a Cloudflare security check, so you are not asked again. Set only after such a check. | As long as Cloudflare's setting for our site allows |
4. Preferences
These are used only if you turn on Preferences. TrendGap works without them: a notice you closed, for example, may show again on your next visit.
| Name | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
tg-Local storage, set by TrendGap (first party) | Remembers that you closed a site notice, so it stays closed. | Until you clear your browser storage or turn Preferences off |
tg_Local storage, set by TrendGap (first party) | Keeps your founder fit quiz answers, so you can come back to your result and use them when you sign up. | Until you start the quiz again, clear your browser storage or turn Preferences off |
5. Analytics and attribution
These are used only if you turn on Analytics and attribution. They tell us which sites and campaign links bring people to TrendGap and how people use it over several visits. We do not use advertising cookies.
| Name | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
tg_Local storage, set by TrendGap (first party) | Remembers how you first found TrendGap: the site or campaign link that sent you and the page you landed on. If you subscribe, it is saved with your subscription and sent to Polar with your checkout. | Until you clear your browser storage or turn this category off |
ph_Cookie, set by PostHog on our site (first party) | PostHog, our product analytics service (EU data center): a random id that recognises this browser on later visits, so we can see how people use TrendGap over time. If you are signed in, it is linked to your TrendGap account id, never to your name or email address. | 180 days, or until you turn this category off |
ph___ph_Local storage, set by PostHog on our site (first party) | PostHog's copy of the same random id and visit details, and the record that you allowed analytics. If we turn on session replays, they are recorded only with this consent, with all text and form fields hidden. | Until you clear your browser storage or turn this category off |
ph_ph_ph_Session storage, set by PostHog on our site (first party) | PostHog's state for this tab, so the pages of one visit are grouped together. | Until you close the tab |
_gaCookie, set by Google Analytics on our site (first party; Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) | Google Analytics, our website and app statistics (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC): a random id that recognises this browser on later visits, so we can count returning visitors and see which pages they use. Set only after you allow this category. Google signals and ad personalisation are off, and it is never used for advertising. | 2 years, or until you turn this category off |
_ga_…Cookie, set by Google Analytics on our site (first party; Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) | Google Analytics' record of your current visit (when it started and how many visits came before), so the pages of one visit are grouped together. | 2 years, or until you turn this category off |
6. Other services
- Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and page speed on our website without cookies and without storing anything in your browser.
- PostHog (EU data center) counts page views, the site or campaign link that brought you, and the sign-up and checkout steps for every visitor, without cookies and without storing anything in your browser. Without your consent it cannot recognise you on a later visit, and it never receives your name, your email address or anything you type. The storage it uses with your consent is listed above.
- When you choose “Continue with Google”, Google's sign-in pages may set their own cookies, under Google's privacy policy.
- When you go to checkout or to the billing portal, the pages of Polar, our merchant of record, may set their own cookies, under Polar's privacy policy.
We do not control the cookies other sites set on their own pages.
7. Changes and contact
When we change this policy, we update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change affects the choices you made, we ask you again.
