Complaints show the pain. Demand shows whether people search for a fix. A report's "Demand" section reads the search volume of the idea's keywords. When Trends is available, the keyword deep dive lets you check any keyword yourself.

The Demand section

"Demand" appears in the "Is it real?" act when TrendGap has measured search data for the idea's keywords. The line under the title says where the numbers come from (monthly searches from Google Ads data), the market, how many keywords, and the month the data runs to.

  • The headline figure: searches a month for the idea's keywords together, in the latest month with data.
  • Growth "year on year": recent months against the same months a year earlier. Hover it to see the exact months.
  • A status badge such as "Rising", "Steady", "Seasonal", "Peaked" or "Exploding", from a published rule.
  • "Highest of the last 12 months", with its month.
  • A chart of monthly searches. When the line is long enough, switch between "1Y" and "4Y" ("All" when it covers less than four years).

The keyword table

  • "Keyword" and "Searches/mo": each keyword with its monthly searches.
  • "Monthly searches": a small line of each keyword's searches over time.
  • "YoY" (year on year): growth compared with a year earlier.
  • "CPC": the average cost per click advertisers have paid for the keyword in Google Ads, in US dollars.
  • "KD": keyword difficulty, how hard it is to rank in Google's top 10, from 0 (easy) to 100.
  • "Intent": what searchers want, such as "Informational", "Commercial" or "Transactional".
  • "AI asks": the estimated number of times a month the keyword is used in AI assistants.

Apart from the keyword and its searches, a column only appears when at least one keyword has a value. When Trends is available and a keyword is a tracked topic, its name links to the topic's page. See Trends.

When a number is missing

TrendGap never estimates a search volume. If Google reports no volume for a keyword, the note under the table says so. A keyword that has not been measured yet is counted in a note, never listed as zero. The section's label ("Data for" and a month) tells you which month the figures are for.

Look up any keyword

When Trends is in your menu, the keyword deep dive looks up any keyword, even one that no report uses. It covers searches in the United States.

  1. Open "Trends" in the menu. Type a keyword in the "Look up any keyword" box and click "Look up".
  2. TrendGap shows the price and your credit balance before anything is charged. Click "Look up for … credits" to go ahead, or "Cancel".
  3. Read the result: average and latest searches a month, "12-mo growth", "CPC", "Keyword difficulty", "Intent", "Ads competition", the monthly line, a weekly index over the last 52 weeks (the busiest week is 100), indicators and "Matching niches" among the ideas your plan opens. Parts without data are left out.
  4. Find past lookups under "Your lookups" on the "Keyword deep dive" page (the "Your keyword lookups" link on Trends takes you there). Opening one again is free, and you can delete it.

If the keyword is already a tracked topic, TrendGap says "This keyword is a tracked topic" and offers "Open the topic" instead, at no cost when your plan opens it. If you looked up the same keyword recently, "Open the saved result" opens it for free. When Watch is available, you can watch the keyword from its result.

What costs credits

  • Reading the Demand section of a report: free.
  • Opening a tracked topic your plan opens, or one of your saved lookups: free.
  • A new keyword deep dive: credits, shown before you confirm. It is charged even when Google reports no volume for the keyword. If no data source answers, the credits come back; if only some answer, you pay only for those parts, rounded up to whole credits.

Your balance shows on the deep dive page and in Settings under "Credits". See Credits and credit packs, and Pricing for what each plan includes.
