Some TrendGap tools do paid work for you, such as fetching fresh keyword or traffic data, or writing an AI report. They use credits. Browsing niches, reports and the trend catalogue never costs credits, and neither do the free tools.
What uses credits
- Research tools that call paid data sources, such as keyword, traffic, backlink and SEO checks.
- AI work that writes something new for you, such as a full idea report or a build tool's result.
- Extra use after an included allowance. Some things, such as quick idea checks and Ask TrendGap questions, come with an amount included each month. After that, more can cost credits.
Every tool shows its price in credits before it runs. On the "Credits" tab in Settings, the "Tools that use credits" list shows each price for your plan. How credits work lists the prices on every plan, and How tools work explains runs and results.
How a run is charged
- When a run starts, its price is set aside. You see it under "Held by runs in progress".
- When the result arrives, the run keeps its credits.
- If a run fails, you get back everything that a data provider or the AI hadn't already billed. A run never keeps more than its price. The ledger shows it as "Failed, refunded".
Your monthly credits
- Paid plans get their credits at the start of each billing month, yearly plans too.
- Free starts with welcome credits that you can use for a limited time. After that, Free gets a small amount at the start of each calendar month.
- Days and calendar months are counted in UTC, the world's standard time, not in your local time.
- On Free and on monthly plans, unused credits don't carry over to the next month. On yearly plans, they carry forward from month to month, up to the limit shown on How credits work. Cancelling or moving to a smaller plan ends the carry-forward.
- Paid plans can spend only part of their monthly credits in one day. The line "Runs can use up to … a day" on the "Credits" tab shows your limit. Free has no daily limit.
- Moving up to a bigger plan adds credits right away for the part of the period that is left.
- During a free trial, your plan may include fewer credits. Free trial, upgrades and downgrades explains what happens next.
- If a renewal payment fails, new credits wait until the payment goes through.
See your balance and ledger
- Click the credits chip in the top bar (on a phone, it sits at the top of the menu). Settings opens on the "Credits" tab.
- "Credits you can use now" is your balance, with the date your credits reset.
- "How this adds up" breaks it down: your plan's credits, anything rolled over or added, what you used, and any credit pack credits with their expiry dates.
- The "Ledger" lists every credit movement, newest first. Times are in UTC. Click "Show older" to go further back.
The "Credits" tab shows while a tool that uses credits is available to you.
Credit packs
If credit packs are on sale, members on a paid plan can buy extra credits as a one-time purchase, without changing plan.
- Open Settings and the "Credits" tab.
- Find "Buy more credits". It shows the pack sizes and the price per credit for your plan.
- Click "Buy for …" next to the size you want.
- Pay on Polar's checkout page. A pack is paid once, plus any tax. It is not a subscription.
- Back in Settings, you see "Adding your credits…" and then a message that your credits were added.
- Pack credits are used after your plan's credits for the period.
- They stay valid for the number of months shown on the card, and each pack's expiry date shows under "How this adds up".
- If a renewal payment failed, update your payment under "Manage billing" first. If your subscription is paused, resume it first.
- If a pack payment is refunded, the refunded share of its unused credits is taken back.
