Two pages look back over a period that has closed: the monthly rankings and the quarterly Pain Index. Both are built from numbers TrendGap stored, and each page writes out the rules it used.
Find them
- In the menu, under "Stay updated", click the small arrow beside "Reports" to show the pages under it.
- Click "Monthly rankings" or "Pain Index".
"Reports" itself opens the Weekly Gap Report. See Gap of the week.
Monthly rankings
The rankings have one dated page per trend category and month. Open Monthly rankings, find a month, then click a category. Each page has up to three sections:
- "Rising topics": the trend topics whose searches grew fastest.
- "Niches heating up": niches whose complaints rose most compared with their recent weeks.
- "Incumbents slipping": incumbents are the established apps, plugins and add-ons already in a market. This section lists the store listings linked to the category's niches whose average rating fell most during the month.
Each section states its rule. A section shows only when a row met that rule in the month. Use "Other categories and months" to move around, and "All monthly rankings" to go back.
- A month is ranked after it ends, once its data has been checked. A stored month never changes: names and links are today's, but every number is as it was stored.
- On Free you see the top rows of each section. Paid plans see every row.
- A niche your plan does not open shows as "Member-only niche." at its rank. An incumbent is named only when it is mapped to a niche you can open.
The Pain Index
The Pain Index is a quarterly look at where software users complain most. Each issue covers a quarter that has ended. Open Pain Index to see the published issues, newest first, then open one. An issue has these parts:
- "Summary" (when the issue has one): a short write-up of the numbers below. It says whether it was drafted with AI and reviewed by TrendGap, or written by TrendGap.
- "Top complaint themes": the complaint themes with the most complaints in the quarter.
- "Incumbents with falling ratings": store listings whose average rating fell most.
- "Average pain by track": the average pain score of each track's niches.
- "Fastest-rising topics": the trend topics with the fastest search growth.
- "Method (version …)": how every section was counted. Every number is a count or a value TrendGap stored; nothing is estimated.
Who sees what
Every plan sees the list of issues. Paid plans read each issue in full; on Free, an issue shows a short note instead. On Pro and above, the "PDF" button saves an issue as a file. See Share, PDF and export.
