Two features help you keep up without digging through the whole library: Gap of the week on Home, and the Weekly Gap Report under "Reports" in the menu. Depending on what is switched on for your account, you may see one or both.

Gap of the week

Gap of the week is one niche, picked by a fixed rule and shown near the top of Home. Nobody picks it by hand, and the card states the rule that chose it. There are two rules:

  • Until enough weekly history exists, it is the highest Gap Score among niches with a minimum number of complaints in the last 90 days.
  • Once niches have enough weekly measurements, it is the biggest weekly Gap Score rise among niches with enough recent complaints. If none of them rose, the first rule applies again.

When no niche meets the rule, the card is not shown. A niche you hid stays out of it.

Reading the card

The card shows the niche's title and summary, its Gap Score and this week's change, the complaints of the last 90 days, the evidence label and the parts of the Gap Score as bars. When history exists, it also charts the complaints TrendGap collected each week and the searches per month. Click the score or the complaint count to jump to that part of the report, or click "Peek" for a short summary.

The pick does not depend on your plan. If your plan does not open it, you see a locked card with "Member report" and "Get Basic". Every paid plan opens it.

The Weekly Gap Report

The Weekly Gap Report is a weekly issue built from the week's measured data. Open "Reports" in the menu to browse the issues, newest first, and open one. Each issue has sections, and each section states its rule:

  • "Fresh complaints, no good app yet": niches with several complaints dated in the week and no good app yet (no strong app, or poorly rated incumbents).
  • "Incumbent slipping": a niche's top app losing rating over several weeks.
  • "Demand rising": searches that grew over a year.
  • "New launches in spaces you watch": new apps entering the top search results for the keyword of a niche you watch. This section is marked "Personal" and shows only when you use the watchlist.

A section that does not have enough history yet, or that had nothing meet its rule this week, is listed under "Not in this issue" with the reason. Items link to their niche reports.

Copy and share an issue

Use "Copy as Markdown" or "Markdown" to take an issue into your own notes. Markdown is plain text with simple formatting that most notes apps can read. When an issue has a public edition, the issue page links it as "Public edition". When a new issue is published, paid plans get a note in the Inbox, if Inbox is in the menu.

What Free can read

On Free you read the newest issue in part: the first few items whose niches your plan opens, plus a count of the other items in each section. Older issues open in a shorter edition in which only the free preview niches open. The issue headline, the summary and the archive search are for paid plans. Every paid plan reads every issue in full.

More under Reports

When "Reports" is in your menu, it also holds "Monthly rankings" and the quarterly "Pain Index". See Monthly rankings and the Pain Index.
