Your AI assistant can look things up in TrendGap while you chat with it, through TrendGap's MCP server. Every step of the setup is spelled out below.
What MCP is, in plain words
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools and data. Many AI assistants and AI coding tools support it, often as a "custom connector". Once connected, your assistant can search TrendGap, read reports and complaints, and more, through your own account.
- It reads only what your plan opens. A niche your plan does not open comes back locked, without its title.
- It cannot change your account, settings, watches or projects, and it cannot see your email address, password or billing.
- You never give the assistant your password: it sends you to TrendGap's own page to sign in and approve.
Who can use it
MCP calls work on Pro and above. Your plan includes a number of calls a day. The consent page states it, and "Connected apps" in Settings shows today's count. The count starts again at midnight UTC, the world's standard time. On other plans you can connect, but every call answers with a note to upgrade. See Pricing.
Connect step by step
- Open Settings and click the "Connected apps" tab. (Or click "Connect" on the Ask TrendGap page.)
- Under "MCP server URL", click "Copy".
- In your AI assistant, add a custom connector and paste the address. The setting has a different name in each assistant.
- Your assistant opens a TrendGap page. If you are not signed in, sign in first; you then come back to the request.
- Read "Connect … to TrendGap?". "It will be able to" lists what the app may read, and "It cannot" lists what it may not do.
- If the app asks to use paid tools, a section "Spending your credits (a separate permission)" appears. Tick "Also allow this app to spend my credits on these tools" only if you want that.
- Click "Allow" to connect, or "Deny" to refuse. You go back to your assistant.
The permissions, explained
- "Reads your TrendGap data": every connection may use the reading tools.
- "Stays connected": the app keeps its access until you revoke it or stop using it for a while (the consent page says how long). Without it, access is short and the app asks you again.
- Spending credits: off unless you ticked the box. "Connected apps" says "Can spend your credits on paid tools" or "Cannot spend your credits". To add it later, connect the app again and tick the box.
What your assistant can do
The tools depend on your plan and on which parts of TrendGap are open to you:
- "Search niches", "Get a niche report" and "Get complaint quotes": the library, reports and dated complaints, within what your plan shows.
- "Get a trend topic", "Get company data" and "List my alerts": trend topics, what TrendGap measured about a company or an app, and your own recent alerts.
- "Keyword deep dive": search volume, cost per click, difficulty and intent for one keyword. It spends credits, except for a trend topic your plan opens.
- "Quick idea check": a quick AI check of your own idea, kept privately in your idea vault. It uses your plan's included checks first, then credits.
The reading tools use no credits. The two paid tools tell your assistant their price, need the spending permission, and count toward your plan's daily credit limit.
Disconnect an app
- In Settings, open the "Connected apps" tab.
- Click "Revoke" next to the app.
- Click "Revoke access". The app loses access at once. To use it again, connect it again from the app.
TrendGap also removes your connections if your plan changes to one without MCP, or if you delete your account.
If something goes wrong
- "This connection request has expired" or "This connection request is not valid": start the connection again from your assistant.
- A paid tool says the connection may only read: connect the app again and tick the spending box.
- Out of calls or credits: the call count starts again at midnight UTC, and your balance is in Settings.
