You can look around TrendGap before you make an account. The website explains the product, shows the prices and opens some real data to everyone. Parts of the site are switched on step by step, and the site's menus only list the pages that are open right now.
Start with the basics
- "How it works" walks through four steps: "Find a gap", "See the proof", "Check the case" and "Plan the build". When it is switched on, it is in the "Resources" menu.
- Pricing lists the plans and what each one includes. How credits work ("What credits buy" in the footer) shows what each tool costs on each plan. See Plans and pricing.
- The "Product" menu has a page for each part of TrendGap, such as "Trends" or "Validate an idea". The "Solutions" menu has a page for each kind of builder, from "Indie hackers" to "WordPress and extension makers".
- The FAQ answers common questions. "What's new", when it is switched on, lists product updates and data notes from the team, newest first.
Free tools and the fit quiz
The Free tools page lists the free tools that are open right now. The idea evaluator is always there and needs a free account. When they are switched on, the page also holds two lookup tools, the founder calculators and the "Founder fit quiz", none of which need an account. See Free tools on the public site.
The Gap of the Week archive
When it is switched on, "Gap of the Week" in the "Resources" menu opens the public archive, free to read with no account. It holds one issue per week, newest first. Each issue is the public edition of the Weekly Gap Report:
- "This week's gap" is one idea a free account can open, chosen by a rule printed on the page. When no idea meets the rule, the issue says "No public pick this week".
- "Also in this issue" lists the other items without their numbers. Members read the full issue.
- "This issue as Markdown" opens the issue as plain text you can copy into your notes.
- "Get the Gap of the Week by email" takes you to sign-up. Then turn on the "Gap of the week" email in Settings when it is offered.
Ideas by track and complaints by app
- "Ideas by track" in the footer, when it is switched on, shows how many ideas each track holds and how many were added in the last 30 days. A track's page adds its complaints of the last 90 days and the ideas anyone can read under "Ideas you can read now". "Read the full reports" takes you to sign-up.
- "Complaints by app" in the "Resources" menu, when it is switched on, lists apps and tools store by store, A to Z. A complaint here is a one-star or two-star review.
- One app's page shows its complaint counts, "What the complaints are about", "Versions with the most complaints" and the library ideas that point to it. "Watch this app" takes you to sign-up.
Reports, rankings and comparisons
Each of these pages appears only when it is switched on:
- The "Pain Report" in the "Resources" menu: a quarterly report on what people complained about, with the ideas in the library by track. Some issues also list complaint themes, apps whose ratings fell and the fastest-rising topics. "Get the full report" takes you to sign-up.
- Monthly top lists: the top rows of each monthly ranking for one category, "Rising topics", "Ideas heating up" and "Apps slipping".
- Trend topic pages: one search topic's monthly searches and its growth over 3 and 12 months, for the topics a free account sees in Trends.
- Comparison pages: TrendGap side by side with another tool. Facts about the other tool come from its own public pages, each with the date it was checked.
What public pages show
Public pages never show more than a free account sees: counts, short lists and the ideas that are open to everyone. Full reports and the ideas for members stay inside the app. Every number comes from TrendGap's stored data, and a page with nothing to show yet says so.
