Three tools sit under Validate: the idea generator, the app and site teardown, and the competitor feature matrix. They follow the same run rules as every tool: the button shows the price, the confirm box shows it again with your balance, and each run is saved in your history.
Open the tools
- In the menu, under "Validate and build", click "Validate". Then click "Idea generator", "Teardown" or "Feature matrix" in the entries below it. The cards under "More ways to validate", at the bottom of the idea evaluator, open them too.
- Fill in the form and click the run button.
- Check the price and your balance in the confirm box, then confirm. Nothing is charged before you do.
Idea generator
The idea generator writes product ideas built on the complaints TrendGap has stored. It is on every plan, Free included, and each run is paid with credits. Fill in any of "Interests", "Skills", "Hours a week", "Budget", "Track" and "Region". If you have a founder profile, the form starts from it ("Edit profile" opens Settings). The "Generate" button shows the price.
- A "Data" chip means the idea is built on a niche. "Built on" names it, with its complaints, Gap Score and a quote. On Free, ideas only use niches your plan opens.
- "Unvalidated" means no stored complaint matches the idea. It comes from your answers only, so treat it as a lead to check.
- "Incumbent" is the measured top app. AI wrote "Incumbent weakness", "Who pays" and "First step". Every number comes from TrendGap's data. "Fit" shows how well the idea suits your answers.
Click "Evaluate this idea" to open the idea evaluator with that idea in "Describe your idea". The text stays inside your browser tab, never in a page address, and nothing runs until you start a check. If fewer ideas pass TrendGap's checks, you pay only for the ideas you got. If no stored complaint matches your answers, nothing is charged.
App and site teardown
Paste an App Store or Google Play listing, or a website, in "App or website link". For a store link, "Store country" picks which country's store to read. On paid plans, click "Run teardown". For an app, TrendGap reads its newest store reviews. For a website, it reads the home, pricing and features pages, and uses the complaints TrendGap already stores about that site. It runs in the background, so you can leave the page. The result shows:
- "Complaint themes" with counts and quotes. The counts come from the reviews; only the labels come from AI.
- "Rating and complaints by week", and "Complaints by version", where "Spike" marks a version that set off complaints.
- "Switching mentions", "Feature gaps", an AI "Summary" with "Angles for a newcomer", and "Matching niches".
A teardown covers a public app or site, so TrendGap shares it for a short time with anyone who asks for the same one. If someone ran it recently, yours is ready at once, and it still costs credits; the confirm box says so. Ran the same link yourself recently? "Open saved run" is free. A teardown that finds no complaint themes keeps only the credits for work already paid for.
On Free, you get a teaser instead, within a monthly allowance. Click "Show the teaser", then "Open the teaser". It only works for an app or site someone tore down recently: you see the largest complaint themes, and the other sections by title. If nobody did, the page says so and nothing is used.
On a full app teardown, "Watch" adds the app to your Watchlist, when the Watchlist is available on your account.
Competitor feature matrix and SWOT
The feature matrix compares competitors from their own pages. It is on paid plans and runs in the background.
- If you like, type your site in "Your product's website (optional)".
- Add sites under "Competitor websites" ("Add a competitor" adds a row). Each site can appear once.
- Or pick a niche you watch in "Or add a niche's competitor sites". TrendGap adds the competitor sites it has on file for it.
- Click "Build the matrix", then confirm the price.
TrendGap reads each site's home, pricing and features pages. Your links stay private. The result has four parts:
- "Sites and plans": the plans each site's pages show. Prices are left out when the pages do not show them.
- "Feature matrix": "Yes", "Partly" (limited, an add-on or a higher plan), "Not found on the pages read" (the product may still have it) or "Pages not read".
- "SWOT per competitor": strengths, weaknesses, opportunities for you and threats to you.
- "What their users complain about": complaints TrendGap already holds about each site. This part is data; the first three are an AI reading of the pages.
If some sites could not be read, the matrix covers the others. The run then keeps only part of the credits it held and returns the rest.
Share and download
- "Markdown" downloads ideas, a full teardown or a matrix on every plan. "CSV" is on Pro and above, for the teardown and the matrix.
- "Share" makes a read-only link on paid plans, and "PDF" is on Pro and above. The shared page leaves some parts out, such as links to niches. See Share, PDF and export.
