An opportunity report is the page behind every idea in the library. It answers one question: is this gap worth building? To open one, go to Opportunities and click an idea's title, or click "Peek" on its card and then "Open full report".
Which reports you can open
Every paid plan opens every report. On the Free plan you can open today's free idea and a few free previews. See The free plan.
- In the library, the cards of these free ideas say "Today's free pick" or "Free preview".
- On the report itself, they say "Free today" or "Free preview".
- Other ideas open as a "Member report". It shows a few main counts, the names of the sections in the full report, and a button to see the plan that opens them.
The report head
The dark card at the top holds the idea's title, its track, its ecosystem (the platform or product it fits into) and a one-line summary when the report has one. Around them you find:
- The evidence label: "Strong", "Moderate", "Thin" or "Evidence pending". Click it to see the rule.
- A momentum badge ("Heating", "Steady" or "Cooling") once the idea has enough weekly history.
- The Gap Score out of 100, its rank among all scored ideas, and "How we score", which jumps to the breakdown.
- Date stamps: "First spotted", "Last complaint" and "Report refreshed".
Further down, a row of key numbers repeats the main figures: "Complaints in the last 90 days", "Searches a month", "Apps in this space" and "Rating of the most-rated app". The complaints tile is always there; the others only show when TrendGap has measured them.
The three acts
The rest of the page is split into three parts, called acts. When a report has more than one act, the bar under the key numbers jumps between them. "On this page" (folded by default) lists every section. A section without data is left out, so not every report has every section.
- "Is it real?": "Gap at a glance", "Evidence", "Demand", "Why now", "Incumbents", "Room to win" and "Score breakdown". Depending on what is available in your account, it can also hold "Recent launches in this space", "Willingness to pay" and "Market size".
- "What to build": "Who it's for", "MVP" (the smallest first version worth building), "Pricing & ways to monetize" and "Risks".
- "How to ship": "Validation plan", "First customers", "Build & launch" and "Names".
A "Report v2" chip in the head means the text sections were written by AI from the stored complaints and the measured data. An older report without the chip shows the text of its first version, marked as such, next to the measured data.
For what each section of the last two acts holds, see What to build and how to ship.
Data, AI and Standard labels
Each section carries one or more labels, and a legend at the bottom of the page explains them:
- "Data": measured by TrendGap and read from its stored data.
- "AI": written by AI. On a "Report v2" report, the section says when it was written and how many quotes it draws on. AI never sets or changes a score.
- "Standard": the same guidance on every report in the track, written by TrendGap.
Act on a report
Buttons in the report head and in the row under it let you take the next step. Which ones you see depends on your plan and on what is available in your account:
- "Watch" follows the idea, so its changes reach your watchlist.
- "Build this with AI" turns the report into a prompt for AI coding tools and app builders. See Build this with AI.
- "Ask about this niche" opens a chat beside the report. Its answers read this report first. See Ask TrendGap.
- "Start a project" starts a new project from this idea. See Projects.
- "Claim this niche" claims the idea as one you are building. See Community and claims.
- "Share link", "PDF" and "Copy as Markdown": see Share links, PDF and export.
- "Compare" puts this idea side by side with others. See Competitors and the market.
When it is available, a "Fit for you" block scores the idea against your Founder profile. Nobody else sees it. If your profile is not finished yet, the block offers "Finish your profile" instead. See Fit for you.
Tell us when something is wrong
On paid plans, most sections of a "Report v2" report end with "Was this useful?".
- Click the thumbs up or thumbs down to vote.
- Click "This is wrong", pick a reason and click "Send flag". The team checks the section against its evidence.
- On Pro and above, "Re-run this section" asks AI to rewrite a section it wrote. Before anything runs, you see whether it uses an included re-run or credits.
