TrendGap uses some words in a specific way. Here they are in plain language, each with a link to the article that explains more. Parts of TrendGap are switched on step by step, so you may not see every one of them in your menu yet.

Ideas and reports

  • Idea, niche or opportunity: a product gap TrendGap found in real complaints. The three words mean the same thing. Ideas live in the library, "Opportunities" in the menu.
  • Opportunity report: the full page about one idea, in three parts: "Is it real?", "What to build" and "How to ship".
  • Member report: an idea your plan does not open. Every paid plan opens every idea.
  • Today's free niche: one idea open to every account until midnight UTC. "Free preview" marks the small share of the library that Free can always open.
  • Track: the kind of product an idea would be, such as SaaS, mobile apps, browser extensions or WordPress plugins. Tracks are the tabs of the library.
  • Incumbent: an existing app, plugin, add-on or site that people use for the problem today.

Evidence and scores

  • Evidence: the dated complaints and reviews behind an idea. Each one shows its source and date, and a link to where it was posted when one exists.
  • Evidence strength: how much backing an idea has, labeled "Strong", "Moderate", "Thin" or "Evidence pending" by published rules.
  • Gap Score: a score from 0 to 100, worked out by a fixed formula from stored counts: pain, demand, weak incumbents, room to win and how hard it is to build.
  • Demand: how often people search for the problem, from monthly search volumes.
  • Gap of the week: the one idea Home puts first. A printed rule picks it from the ideas with enough recent complaints: the highest Gap Score, or the biggest weekly rise once enough history exists.
  • Fit for you: how well an idea matches your founder profile, such as your platforms, skills, time, budget and region. Only you see it.

Finding and organizing

  • My lists and triage: your own shortlists, plus quick keep, watch or skip choices that tidy the library.
  • Saved search: a search of the library or of Trends that you keep. It tells you about new matches.
  • Trends: search topics with their demand, their growth and the complaints behind them.
  • Pain clusters: themes that group related niches, trend topics and incumbents.
  • Audience hub: a group of ideas aimed at the same kind of customer.
  • Weekly Gap Report: the week's measured changes in one issue, under "Reports" in the menu.

Watching a market

  • Watch: an idea, app, keyword or other item you follow from your watchlist.
  • Alert: a message that lands in your Inbox when a watched item changes enough to pass one of your rules. The Inbox page is headed "Alerts".
  • Market Radar: app charts, new products and startups, and top websites, so you can see who is moving in a market.
  • Keyword monitor: follows your keywords on developer forums, Q&A sites and code issue trackers, and tags each new post by intent, such as "Pain", "Request" or "Buying intent".

Checking and building

  • Validate and the Idea Evaluator: check your own idea against complaints, demand and existing apps.
  • Private vault: where the ideas you evaluate are kept, visible only to you.
  • Build this with AI: turns a report into a prompt for AI coding tools and app builders.
  • Project: a workspace for one product you plan to build, with build and launch tools.
  • Tools: research tools for websites, SEO (showing up in search engines), markets and competitors.
  • Ask TrendGap: ask questions about TrendGap's data in plain words. Every statement in an answer links the rows it used.

Your account

  • Plan: Free or a paid plan. Paid plans differ in monthly allowances and credits, not in which ideas they open.
  • Credits: what some tools and extra AI work use. When credits are in use, your balance shows in the top bar.
  • Connected apps: link your own AI assistant to TrendGap's data, on Pro and above.
